Fun place, obviously the owners were drunk dancing on a Saturday night (which made it pretty cool too). Cheap night out! Only down side was that one of the local fishermen tried to get into a fight with an old man who just asked him to dance on the dance floor instead of right next to him and his table

Food was not real impressive, the service was slow but friendly. The atmosphere was pleasant and the live music was very enjoyable.

Not overly impressive for the price. Service was slow, food was " Meh". Reuben Egg Rolls were way over cooked, and Cabbage Wraps were dry , and did not have enough filling. Beers were expensive and not a very large selection It was their first weekend open , so I will give them the benefit of the doubt and try again in the future.

Strolling down the street and found this place. Two friendly guys shucking oysters out front. Fifty cents each. They were plump, fresh and cold. Fun to buy from a street vendor!!! St Michaels is a fun town to visit.

Not impressed. After being seated, no water was ever served or offered. In addition we were never told the specials. Next, the appetizer came out cold. As far as drinks go, my first mixed drink came in a pilsner beer style glass. The second mixed drink was served in a small plastic cup and my wife's wine was served in a water glass.(We were told they had a lot of breakage, tight budget I guess) Sorry, but in a indoor seating with tablecloths you don't serve plastic cups at dinner. The food was ok, but over priced for what it was. Then to add insult we were over charged when they billed out the wrong wine.

We popped in for a cocktail and an appetizer. The service was great (as was the crowd) and we thoroughly enjoyed the beer cheese dip. I am still craving the soft pretzels. Will definitely be back!

Being an Irish Pub connoisseur we were so disappointed. From the 80's music to the service. It was a horrible! The service was slow and clueless. The food was just ok. The menu on their website is old so don't go in thinking you can order any of that. Very disappointed for what we paid also, not a bargain. Won't be back!

We went with friends on their boat to St. Michael's for the day and had lunch at the Blackthorn Pub. Even though it was a super busy Saturday, the service was fast and friendly. Good Pub food, just what you expect. Everything we had was great, corned beef plate, roast beef sandwhich, Reuben (I love a good Reuben!) Crab Salad, Shrimp and hot wings apps. The beers were great. I had a 3 glass tasting, we all had something different, and all were happy happy happy. Will definitely be our go-to place when we visit again.

Blackthorn is great! I don't live very close to it personally, but I frequent there very often because of the atmosphere alone. They are nestled in the historic town in St. Michaels with great food, live music and a super cool staff! Highly recommended.

My wife and I stopped in the other night for appetizers and drinks to start. I ordered the Irish Nachos with corned beef and my wife ordered the crab dip. The nachos I received were missing a number of the ingredients to include the corned beef ( how do you mess that up) so I sent it back. They brought the nachos out again with the corned beef however other ingredients were missing this time. Ie: avocado, tomato, and fire roasted corn. Ugh!!! As far as the crab dip the only thing I can say was that the-presentation was nice. The dip was all cheese with an old bay flavor and and barely any crab (if it was there I didn't see it). Since the appetizers were Noreen close to what was listed on the menu we decided to call it quits and not order dinner. The last item I was disappointed I was the service. There were times when we were the only ones in the place and the waitress was no where to be found. She was very pleasant but obviously we were not a priority. Something exciting must have been going on in the kitchen. I would suggest to the owners that they seriously consider hiring new cooks because if the ones they have can't get the appetizers right then they are in bring trouble when it comes to making the main courses. Hopefully the owners see this review and care enough to make their restaurant a success.

Stopped for a beer, had a couple appetizers. The Reuben egg rolls are fantastic. The Fried Pickles are insanely huge, very oven hot, and a meal in themselves. Nice looking place, good selection of food and beverages.

My husband and I decided to give this pub a try, despite the mixed reviews. After our experience, we know that we should have listened more closely to the negative comments. When we arrived at the main door, we encountered a hostess's station--but no hostess. We waited for several minutes before I walked into the restaurant to ask whether they were seating customers at that time. A waitress (or hostess?) approached us and offered us any table we wished. We seated ourselves at a table for two, were offered menus immediately, and were promptly brought the unsweetened tea we ordered. So far, so good... Unfortunately, our visit to Blackthorn Pub began to worsen, and by the end of our visit, we were totally turned off this restaurant. We ordered food as soon as the waitress came to take our order: I asked for the crab cake sandwich, and my husband ordered the glazed chicken entrée. Our wait began. After more than 50 minutes, we finally got our food. My sandwich and steak fries were adequate (I've had better and worse), but my husband's chicken dish had definitely been prepared long before we arrived at the restaurant. The chicken was dry, the potatoes were mushy, and the asparagus was limp. Although we will be in St. Michaels for another nine days, we know that we will not return to Blackthorn Pub, even to enjoy a Shocktop on draft.

My big fat Italian family decided to visit the Blackthorn Pub for dinner on Friday night of Memorial Day Weekend. They made a reservation for 7:30, and upon arrival, we were the ONLY table there. I thought we were doing something very bad. The service was a hair on the slower side, but not as bad as other reviews had expected me to believe. We were also a table of like 10, so it was a lot to handle. The biggest concern I had was that they didn't have a single vegetarian dish on the menu that I could get excited about. I ended up getting the beet salad for dinner... which was delicious... but not really what i was in the mood for coming out of a light lunch. I tried to compensate with fried pickles and beer cheese dip which were ordered as appetizers in an effort to not end up hammered by the end of the meal. It worked, but it wasn't quite what i was hoping for. Lots of people in our party ordered the salmon and said it was phenomenal. When they brought the food out, it all came together with the exception of 1 plate- my aunts salmon. Whey the brought it out, it was pretty rare/raw looking. It seemed like they miscalculated and forgot one. She asked if they could throw it back on the grill and cook it a bit more. They did something to it where it came out reallyfast looking kinda greyish? Maybe they microwaved it? Regardless, she didn't eat it and they took it off of our bill. That was a bit of a bummer, but in a table of 10, everything can't be perfect. We get that. On the way out, the place seemed to have livened up a bit. Also noteworthy is that they had live entertainment- a woman with a voice... wowzers she was great... we really enjoyed listening to her in the background.

Had a beer when the wife was at the spa. Good atmosphere to watch a football game. Came back after dinner at Talbots Saturday for the band. Band was great. Good vibes and time. Would go back again. Doesn't seem like a lot of options in st. Michaels.....

Just spent a Valentines day lunch with som friends at Blackthorn. They were busy so we were seated upstairs where there's zero ambiance, poor service (they have to schlep food up the steps), all for food thats really lacking. An undercooked burger, mixed up cocktails, and a sad cosmopolitan. We may give another try there after try everywhere else.

The bar looks great, but the service my wife and I got was awful. The first day of March Madness and no games on any of the 7 TV's. No big deal since we were the only customers, we just asked the bartender if she could put basketball on...eye roll. After my wife called her out on the obvious eye roll she said that when people watch sports they get angry when their team is losing and begin yelling and cursing saying thinks like GD. Excuse me, your a bartender! And we are your only customers, literally in the whole place. She puts the three games on, one of which was on a TV on the other side of the bar despite 4 TV's right in front of where we sat. She then proceeded to not take any interest in us and was making the schedule on her laptop, back to us, and complaining about this and that to the one waitress at the end of the bar playing on her phone. When I asked if we could get the sound of the game on, she said she couldn't. She said the owner likes Irish music playing the whole time. She then told us she changed the settings/station so there is more recent music playing. I heard no Irish music at all. So she is OK with ignoring her owners requests for her preferences but not that of her customers? Her ONLY customers. I told her that I doubt her owner would rather have an empty bar with Irish music then happy paying customers in the bar with the TV sound on. We crushed our beers and took our money elsewhere. They don't deserve it and we never returned.

I love an Irish Pub, and having worked in two, I'm picky. This one certainly passes muster. Dinner started with a 20 year old Jameson, that was lovely, then fried pickles - delicious. I had the Fish and Chips and there was enough to share with my friend. It was very tasty. One exception. The coleslaw. Ugh. It was awful. This is a personal taste thing, I guess others like it, but I didn't. Regardless, on the whole, it was awesome and I would certainly go back. The waitress was attentive and nice and decor fit the tourist town/ Irish Pub ambiance quite nicely.

Stopped in for lunch on a slow, overcast day. The Shepherd's Pie was cup sized, entree priced and soupy. Perhaps the frozen corn, peas, carrots and lima beans! had thawed in the microwave along with the ground unseasoned hamburger. Also, missing was the gravy and melted cheese. A big disappointment. Reubn was stripped down as well. Hardly any sauerkraut, no cheese, no thousand island dressing.

My boyfriend and I went to blackthorn for breakfast. The restaurant was not crowded, about 4 other tables, 1 waitress and 1 bartender. Upon entering, we were promptly seated and given menus. The menu was limited, but we were both able to find items that we thought we would enjoy. We ordered bloody marys and egg dishes (mine - scrambled, his - over easy). The bloody marys came out immediately and were ok. It took 30+ minutes for our food to come out. And when the food finally came out, the eggs and toast were cold. We left the restaurant underwhelmed and disappointed. In short, I would not go back for breakfast.

Solid choice for inside dining in St Michaels. Good variety for pub fare. Nachos with beer cheese surprisingly good and nuts and berries salad rocked! Our server, Sam, was attentive and friendly. Atmosphere is attractive with great murals of Ireland adorning the walls.

Went here for brunch on Sunday morning after a wedding. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our waitress took our drink orders( water and Bloody Marys) which came quickly but were below average. After placing our food order the waitress never returned without one of us getting up to grab one of the clueless staffs attention. We were the only 6 people in the place! 45 minutes later we received our food. 4 of us ordered eggs Benedict and 2 ordered French toast. The eggs Benedict was cold and the poached eggs were more like hard boiled. The French toast was bland and served without syrup. We ended up having to get someone's attention to grab us the check( some of which we refused to pay for) and going to Graul's for sandwiches.

We didn't eat here but had drinks two night in a row. The bartenders were friendly, happy, helpful and fun. They both recommended good new drinks got us and the crowd at the bar was a fun group. The place is nice and clean and spacious, not claustrophobic.

Had literally the worst service of my life here. I came with my family for lunch a few weeks ago and we all ordered water, one appetizer and our entrees. After we finished the app, we still had not been offered refills for our waters, which had all been empty for some time, while our waitress was casually hanging out by the service station at the bar. Our entrees were brought to us by our waitress who promptly turned and walked away after bringing our food... I did not even have time to ask for water (which STILL hadn't been refilled) or cocktail sauce which was not offered automatically with my crab cake. When I finally got annoyed and walked to the bar to ask someone for help, I had to say "excuse me" several times before I could get the bartender to look up from her cell phone. How rude! The food was great but when my father went to pay, we got sick of waiting for someone to take our credit card so I had to take it up to the bar. Overall, the food was good but completely overshadowed by the horrifically appalling service. I've been a waitress for many years and could tell the management of this staff had clearly been slacking off this day.

Had dinner here this weekend while in town for the St. Michael's Running Festival. Great location, seating was very comfortable in front of a large open window. Service was very friendly, although a teeny bit slow. Ordered salmon with a blue crab and shrimp sauce, AMAZING. One of the best seafood dishes I've ever had! Would def. dine again.

Stopped in for a quick lunch while in St. Michaels. We had the beer cheese dip with soft pretzels for an appetizer. It was delicious! I had a crab cake with fries. Fries were great. Crab cake was average. The boyfriend had bangers and mash. He said it was good. Service was a bit slow but the owner was friendly!

Absolutely loved this place. Blackthorn is a really nice local pub in downtown St. Michaels. We stopped in for happy hour and were thoroughly entertained by the bartender, Missy. What a delightful lady. We just tried the fried pickle and it was delish!!. You really can't just a place on that, but you can judge a place on friendliness, cleanliness and attentiveness (and a great wine list). An overall A+ experience and will definitely go back.

Arrived around 1:30 on Black Friday 11/28. You'd think the managers would realize there would be a lot of diners around that day. I waited at the hostess stand for 15 minutes before being greeted by a harried waitress. It appears they had 2 waitstaff and one bartender working in a full restaurant. There were 3 open tables that simply had not been bussed so we could not sit down. While my family waited I went to a few other restaurants nearby to see what other wait times were. nothing much, so we waiting and sat down - about 35 minutes after arriving. Keep in mind we were the first ones in line at the hostess stand. Its not like they told us there was a wait. We just couldn't find any staff to tell us anything. The table next to us said they waited OVER 60 MINUTES for their food to be delivered after ordering. The waitress said they only had one cook working the kitchen. No thanks. We left without ordering, disappointed.

Wandered down Talbot Street and came across this new place. Great addition to the St. Michael's scene. We sat at the mile long bar with eight TVs .. to get 1/2 price appetizer's and Happy Hour beers (not all appetizer's are 1/2 price)... cabbage rolls were very good ... rolled corned beef and spot of mashed potatoes.. delicious. I tried the crusted and broiled cod, sauteed asparagus (just right... still bright green and crisp), baked small potatoes, and a for flair... a spot of mashed potatoes with I think very thin bread sticks? along with eight thinly sliced lemon slices arrange around the rim of the plate. My wife and sister split the crab cake dinner... good deal and plenty of food. Happy time, good service, attentive bar tender... put one TV on the Golf channel for us. Cool restrooms with glass tiles... need to remove the huge TP shelf on the wall and put it under the sink....in a cabinet. We will be back of course. A Sullivan and two Gallaghers.

We were pleased to come upon this new Irish Pub in St. Michael's this past Easter Weekend, and had a wonderful meal there after Easter Mass. I had eggs and bacon and a wonderfully unexpected hash browns that were lightly breaded in a batter that made them appear somewhat like french's fried onion rings. I didn't realize they were battered, or I wouldn't have ordered them since I am sensitive to wheat, but everyone at my table loved them. Others ordered the Ruben and the burgers, and both were well satisfied. The Burger was a work of art- It just looked perfect and juicy- wonderfully presented. The Ruben was not overstuffed- just right for easy eating, and the french fries that came with were awesome steak fries, lightly seasoned. The decor is hip- Edison light bulbs above the bar, and a collection of them overhead as you walk up the stairs to the other seating area. This is a Brand new, well appointed pub all around. And we look forward to coming back in the evening in hopes there'll be some good old Irish Pub tomfoolery, and pub music. Slainte!

The service was impeccable, especially for their first day open as a new restaurant. Both the hostess and waitress were very attentive and helpful. I tried the Reuben egg rolls, which were unique and delicious. My friend tried the "Irish combo" with the cream of crab soup and the corned beef sandwich. While I gave my food a five, she said hers was more like a four. We both agreed that the corned beef was lean and very good.
